Frequently Asked Questions

6 common questions answered

Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2026 Kia Telluride has its oil changed? The oil filter should be replaced with the oil when the service calls for an oil and filter change.

The filter captures debris carried by the oil and can load over time. Replacing it alongside the oil supports effective filtration instead of extending one filter across multiple oil changes. Maintenance timing should follow the manufacturer’s schedule and the vehicle’s service history.

  • Filter matched to the engine
  • New sealing component where required
  • Leak check after the engine runs
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2026 Kia Telluride? The service includes a correctly matched filter, a new drain plug gasket or washer where used, and a leak check after the engine runs.

The old filter is removed and replaced with one matched to the engine’s specification. The sealing surfaces are renewed during the service. Running the engine afterward allows the filter seal to be checked for leaks before the vehicle leaves.

  • Engine-matched oil filter
  • New drain plug gasket or washer where applicable
  • Post-service filter seal inspection
What happens if the oil filter on a 2026 Kia Telluride is not replaced?A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing oil to circulate without being filtered.

The engine still receives oil, but it no longer receives the same filtration. Debris that the filter would normally hold can continue circulating with the oil. An oil-pressure warning, unusual engine noise, or oil that darkens quickly after a change should prompt a service inspection.

  • Bypass valve may open
  • Unfiltered oil may circulate
  • Warning signs should be inspected
Does a 2026 Kia Telluride need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter must be matched to the engine fitted in the 2026 Kia Telluride, because filters are not interchangeable across engines.

The correct filter depends on the engine’s design and specification. Herb Chambers Kia of Burlington can match the filter to the engine actually installed in your SUV without relying on a universal fit. The filter is replaced with the oil so it can capture debris effectively.

  • Engine-matched filter selection
  • Correct sealing surfaces
  • Leak check after installation
Can the oil be changed on a 2026 Kia Telluride without changing the filter?Oil can be changed separately, but an oil and filter service replaces the filter at the same visit.

Replacing the filter with the oil prevents a loaded filter from remaining in service with fresh oil. Once the bypass valve opens, oil can circulate unfiltered. The manufacturer’s maintenance schedule and the vehicle’s service history help determine the appropriate maintenance visit.

  • Fresh oil service
  • Filter replacement at the same visit
  • Maintenance based on schedule and history
