Frequently asked questions

Frequently Asked Questions

6 common questions answered

Is the oil filter replaced every time a 2021 Kia Soul has its oil changed?Yes, the oil filter is replaced with the oil as part of this maintenance service.

The filter captures debris carried by engine oil, so carrying the same loaded filter into another oil change can reduce filtration. The manufacturer’s published maintenance schedule calls for oil filter replacement every 7,500 miles.

  • Filter matched to the engine specification
  • Drain plug gasket or washer renewed where applicable
  • Leak check after the engine runs
What is included in an oil filter replacement on a 2021 Kia Soul? The service includes a correctly matched filter, a new drain plug gasket or washer where needed, and a post-service leak check.

The filter is matched to the engine fitted in the vehicle rather than selected generically. After the engine runs, the filter seal and drain area are checked for leaks. You can schedule service at Herb Chambers Kia of Burlington.

  • Engine-specific oil filter
  • New sealing washer or gasket where used
  • Inspection for leaks after operation
What happens if the oil filter on a 2021 Kia Soul is not replaced?A loaded filter can open its bypass valve, allowing oil to circulate without being filtered.

A bypass valve keeps oil moving, but it does not provide the same filtration. The engine still receives oil; it may simply receive oil carrying debris. Replacing the filter with the oil avoids stretching one filter across two changes.

  • Debris remains in the lubrication flow
  • Filtered oil may be replaced by unfiltered oil
  • Filter replacement remains part of scheduled maintenance
Does a 2021 Kia Soul need a specific oil filter?Yes, the filter is matched to the 2021 Kia Soul’s engine, which is an inline-four with 1.6 to 2.0 liters of displacement.

Filters are not interchangeable across engines, so the filter must correspond to the engine actually fitted to the vehicle. The service team matches it to the engine’s specification without relying on a one-size-fits-all selection.

  • Inline-four engine configuration
  • 1.6 to 2.0 liters of displacement across trims
  • Filter selection based on the fitted engine
Can the oil be changed on a 2021 Kia Soul without changing the filter? The oil can be changed separately, but the filter should be replaced with the oil according to the manufacturer’s maintenance schedule.

The filter holds debris removed from the oil and can become loaded over time. If its bypass valve opens, oil can circulate unfiltered. The manufacturer’s published schedule calls for oil filter replacement every 7,500 miles.

  • Filter captures oil-borne debris
  • Loaded filters can allow unfiltered circulation
  • Replacement is paired with the oil service
